Beautiful orangey brown, the head is thin and short-lived. Lowish condition. The alcohol is evident in the nose, with some fruit hiding behind a strong bitter almond note. Palate is rather thin for a beer of such gravity, with slight fruit notes, alcohol being evident all the way into the finish, which sees those bitter almonds come back in force for a warming, predominantly bitter, lingering finish, with some alcohol burn in the throat. Curiously reminiscent of the 1999 Xmas offering by Shepherd Neame, it nevertheless works better. Pleasant enough, but not quite a match to strong blonde Belgian ales, although the tiny bottle is just the right size for a nightcap. This could be interesting in the kitchen, possibly to add a kick at the last minute to a sauce with mushrooms, chicken or white fish.
